Tribunal claims up by more than 40 per cent
Figures released by the Tribunals Service for 2007-2008 show an increase in claims accepted from 132,577 to 189,303. Many claims cover multiple jurisdictions and figures that break this down show a total of 296,963 individual claims during 2007-08 compared with 238,546 in 2006-07. The average award for unfair dismissal was £8,058; race discrimination £14,566; sexual discrimination £11,263; disability discrimination £19,523 (with a maximum award during 2007-08 of £227,208).
